Handwoven in Ghana by Nanasei Agyemang — a Ghanaian artist leading a new generation of Bolgatanga weavers. Each Bolgawoven piece is sculpted from hand-harvested, naturally dyed elephant grass, softened with water and shaped by hand into bold, oversized forms that blur the line between basket and sculpture.

Bolga baskets have been woven in Ghana's Upper East Region for generations — traditionally as sifters, storage vessels, and everyday containers. Nanasei's work takes that craft somewhere new: organic shapes that curl and fold like pliable ceramics, intricate botanical color palettes, scale that turns the basket into a piece of decor on its own. Works as a functional vessel or a standalone floor sculpture. No two are exactly alike.

STORY

From Nanasei Agyemang — a Ghanaian artist and master weaver who returned to his roots in Ghana's Upper East Region after studying in Arizona and living in Denver, Colorado. Working with artisans in Bolgatanga, Nanasei is leading a new generation of Ghanaian weaving: museum-quality sculptural baskets made from hand-harvested, naturally dyed elephant grass, shaped into organic forms that feel as much like sculpture as vessel.

His practice is rooted in craft, mentorship, and opportunity. Every piece creates work for local artisans, preserves generations of Bolga weaving tradition, and introduces it to the world in a new sculptural language. Bold, textural, deeply made — and no two ever the same.

Care Instructions

Gently wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from direct moisture to preserve natural fibers and dyes. Rotate occasionally if placed in direct sunlight to prevent uneven fading.
