DualGrove Platter · Twin-Pod Form
Two shallow wells joined by a narrow bridge — one side for the dip, the other for what you dip in it. Or olives and cheese. Or two chutneys. The twin-pod form makes it a natural for shared plates and small meals where you want things side by side but not touching. At 27 cm long, it sits on the table like something between a serving piece and a sculpture.
This is Lyrnai pottery from Meghalaya's Jaintia Hills — made by women in the villages of Tyrchang and Lyrnai using clay pulled from the Sung Valley floor. There is no potter's wheel. Each platter is hand-molded, fired in an open kiln for nine to ten hours, then plunged white-hot into Sohliya bark water. That's what turns it black. This tradition received a Geographical Indication tag (GI No. 1095) in 2024.
