Royal Umbrella Quilt — Hand Block-Printed, Jaipur India

Regular price $340.00
Shipping calculated at checkout.

A hand block-printed quilt from Jaipur, India — crafted entirely from pure cotton with a pure cotton upper and 100% cotton batting. The royal umbrella motif is carved by hand into teak woodblocks, dipped in azo-free natural dyes, and pressed onto the cloth one imprint at a time. The result is a quilt that feels soft and lived-in from the first night, with subtle variations in color, pattern, and hand-stitched line that can only come from human hands.

Each quilt passes through four sets of hands before it reaches the bed: the woodblock carver, the block printer, the dye specialist, and the quiltmaker who layers, stuffs, and stitches by hand. It's a slow process — a working tradition that has defined Jaipuri block print for generations, and one that supports women artisans who carry it forward.

STORY

In the workshops of Jaipur, every quilt begins with a block of wood and a steady hand. A carver chisels the umbrella motif into teak. A block printer dips each block into azo-free natural dyes and presses it onto pure cotton, one imprint at a time. From there the printed cloth travels to the homes of quiltmakers — women who layer, stuff, and stitch each quilt by hand, their needlework binding not only cotton to cotton but generations of skill passed down through families.

Each quilt passes through four artisans' hands before it's finished. Made in small batches. No two are exactly alike — slight variations in print alignment, stitch tension, and dye saturation are part of the story, a reminder of the human touch behind each piece.

Care Instructions

Dry clean recommended to preserve block-print color and hand stitching. If machine washing, use cold water on gentle cycle inside a mesh bag; wash separately for the first 1–2 cycles as natural dyes may release color. Line dry in shade. Do not bleach. Iron on reverse if needed.
