The Gong Players — Bastar Wrought Iron Sculpture (Pair)

Regular price $60.00
Shipping calculated at checkout.

Two figures, each holding a gong, hand-forged from wrought iron in the Bastar district of Chhattisgarh. The gong is a central instrument in Bastar ceremonial life — a call to gather, a rhythm-keeper through festivals and rituals — and these two figures honor that role in the most direct way possible: by being shown mid-performance. Available in two sizes (3.6 in and 4.5 in), they're designed to be displayed as a pair or paired with other Bastar musicians like The Music Boat.

Bastar wrought iron is one of India's protected craft traditions, registered under the Geographical Indication (GI) system. Every piece is hand-forged using traditional tools and fire — heated, hammered, and shaped one strike at a time, with no molds or machinery. Each figure is forged separately and joined by hand, which means no two pairs are ever identical.

STORY

Bastar wrought iron is made by artisans in the Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, where ironworking has been practiced for generations and is formally protected under India's Geographical Indication registry. Each piece is hand-forged — heated, hammered, and shaped one strike at a time without molds or machinery. The gong is one of the most important instruments in Bastar ceremonial life: a call to gather, a marker of celebration, a keeper of rhythm during festivals and rituals. Each figure is forged individually and joined by hand, so no two pieces are ever the same.

Care Instructions

Dust with a soft dry cloth. Keep dry — wrought iron can oxidize if exposed to moisture. If surface rust develops, lightly buff with a dry cloth. Do not use water or chemical cleaners.
