The Grand A·chik Canteen — Forest Gourd Vessel
A naturally cured forest gourd from the Garo Hills of Meghalaya, bound with hand-split rattan and cane in the way it's been done for generations. The shape isn't designed — it's grown. The gourd is left to reach its full size on the vine, then harvested, sun-cured, and reinforced with a woven lattice that holds the form and adds structure. The rind is smooth to the touch; the cane is rough. That contrast is the whole piece.
The A·chik canteen was originally a water vessel — carried through forest trails by Garo farmers. This version is scaled up as a floor or table sculpture, but the craft is identical. 100% plant-based, 100% biodegradable, made the same way it was made centuries ago.
