The Highwater — Stoneware Bowl

Regular price $49.00
Shipping calculated at checkout.

A bowl thrown by hand on the wheel, then left half-finished on purpose. The outside is bare stoneware — sandy, faintly ridged, warm and dry under the fingers, the clay exactly as it came off the wheel. Inside, a deep blue glaze floods it to the rim and stops there in one clean line, pooling darker where it gathered. Two surfaces, one object: something rough held around something luminous.

It runs on the same tide as the Highwater plates — glaze finding its own level and staying there, a waterline you can run a thumb across. Thrown by hand at a small studio in Turkey, where the clay is left to show its own character rather than covered over. The bowl you reach for on the days that ask a lot of you: soup when you're unwell, cereal alone at dawn, the meal eaten standing at the counter. Give it to someone going through something who doesn't want to talk yet, to new parents eating one-handed at 3am, or to a household just starting its table.

Sold singly, or as a pair — the large for the table, the small for whoever eats standing up. The set is the housewarming gift: the first two bowls in a new kitchen.

STORY

The Highwater takes its name from the mark the glaze leaves behind. On the plates it pools across the face and stops where it stops; on the bowl it floods to the rim and holds a clean waterline.

Care Instructions

Food safe. Dishwasher safe, though gentle hand-washing is recommended to keep the glaze and the raw exterior looking their best. Dry fully before storing — the unglazed clay can hold moisture. Avoid sudden temperature changes.
