The Knup Ancestral Lampshade — Teardrop Form

Regular price $175.00
Shipping calculated at checkout.

The teardrop version of the Knup. Same bamboo, same Khasi weavers in Meghalaya, same origin story — the traditional rain shield that farmers wore through the wettest monsoons on earth. This one tapers into a narrow drop shape that throws a tighter, more focused pool of light and shadow than the wider canopy form.

The weave is denser on this shape, which means more structure and more intricate shadow patterns when lit. At 21 × 16 inches it works over a dining table, a reading corner, or a hallway — anywhere you want a single, dramatic pendant. Hand-woven from sustainably harvested bamboo. Shade only.

STORY

The Knup is a traditional Khasi rain shield from Meghalaya — the wettest inhabited place on earth. This teardrop form uses the same weaving technique as the original rain cape, adapted into a pendant lampshade that casts intricate shadow patterns when lit. Hand-woven from sustainably harvested bamboo by Khasi artisans. WILLAGE carries both Knup forms because this is the kind of indigenous craft that deserves a place in homes far beyond the hills where it was made.

Care Instructions

Dust gently with a soft dry cloth or brush. Keep away from prolonged moisture. Indoor use only. The natural bamboo may lighten slightly over time with sun exposure.
