The Retelling — Woven Sari Journal

Regular price $45.00
Shipping calculated at checkout.

The cover comes first: strips of old sari cloth, twisted and woven by hand into a thick, nubbly fabric you can feel under your thumb. A leather strap and a long wrap tie hold it shut, finished with a small heart-shaped charm. Inside, fifty pages of cream handmade paper — the kind that makes a pen slow down.

Every sari here had a life before this one. Worn, washed, folded away — then cut into strips, woven, and handed a new story to hold. Each journal is made by the women of Biborton Handmade Paper, a Prokritee workshop in Bangladesh, and no two covers come out the same. For the traveler, the graduate, the one starting something new — or anyone who still thinks best on paper.

Handmade paper; cover woven from recycled sari cloth; leather trim and tie. ⚠️ Button and heart charm material unconfirmed (they look like coconut shell).

STORY

Every sari in this cover had a life before this one. The cloth is cut into strips, twisted, and woven by hand into a thick, textured fabric, then bound around fifty pages of handmade paper and closed with a leather wrap tie. Each journal is made by the women of Biborton Handmade Paper, a Prokritee workshop in Bangladesh. No two covers are alike, which suits a book meant to hold one person’s story.

Care Instructions

Spot clean the cover gently with a barely damp cloth; do not soak or machine wash. Store out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the dyes. The leather will soften and darken with handling.
