The Sakleshpur Bowl — Hand-Carved Jackfruit Wood

Regular price $320.00
Shipping calculated at checkout.

A serving bowl carved from a single block of jackfruit wood — 25 inches across, two integrated handles, and a smooth sculptural form that took shape one cut at a time. The wood comes from Sakleshpur in Karnataka, a region in India's Western Ghats better known for its coffee estates than its woodwork. The grain runs in long flowing patterns of warm gold and brown, and because it's all one piece, every bowl is genuinely one of a kind.

At this size, it works as a centerpiece more than a serving piece — a bowl for fruit on a kitchen island, a catch-all on an entryway console, or just a sculptural object on a long table. The finish is a natural food-safe polish, so it can hold food when you want it to.

Solid Jackfruit Wood, Natural Food-Safe Finish

STORY

Carved by hand from a single block of jackfruit wood — no joints, no glue, no shortcuts. The wood comes from Sakleshpur, a region in the Western Ghats of Karnataka best known for its sprawling coffee estates and dense biodiversity. Jackfruit trees grow alongside the coffee, and their dense, golden-grained wood has been used for generations in regional woodwork. Each bowl follows the natural grain of the block it came from, which means no two are alike — the patterns, color, and slight asymmetries are inherent to the material.

Care Instructions

Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Do not soak or submerge. Dry immediately. To maintain the natural luster, occasionally treat with food-safe mineral oil or beeswax. Do not put in dishwasher.
