The Second Story — Upcycled Sari Journal
Pick it up and you feel the weave before you see the colour: strips of old sari fabric woven back into a thick, nubbled cloth, wrapped around a pocket-sized book and finished with a strip of leather. Pinks run into teal, plum into marigold. Because every cover is woven from whatever saris came to the loom, no two are alike. The one you receive will be its own.
A sari is a garment with a life. It is worn to weddings and festivals and ordinary Tuesdays, and often handed down. This one has been given a second story, and the pages are for yours: lists, poems, sketches, the three good things you noticed today. It was handmade by women artisans working with Prokritee, an organization that provides jobs and skills training for women in under-resourced communities in Bangladesh. It’s for the list-maker, the quiet poet, and the person who always has something worth writing down.
