The Quiet Wood - Pewter Woodland Netsuke Set

Regular price $34.00

Three small animals cast in solid pewter — a crouching rabbit with ears laid back, a squirrel holding its find in both paws, and a hedgehog curled nearly into a ball. Each fits in the hollow of a palm, with real weight for its size and detail down to the quills and the fur of the tail. They're made in the spirit of Japanese netsuke: tiny carved companions once worn on a kimono sash, meant to be handled, pocketed, and kept close.

Together they read like a small fable — the rabbit for luck and new beginnings, the squirrel for foresight, the hedgehog for quiet resilience. Cast, polished, and finished by hand in a family pewter workshop in Middlebury, Vermont, and packed in a muslin pouch so they arrive ready to give. For the desk, the bookshelf, the windowsill — or the person who loves a pocket-sized talisman.

STORY

Netsuke were tiny carved companions worn on the kimono sash in Edo-era Japan — miniature sculpture meant to be handled and kept close. This trio carries the idea into a Vermont pewter workshop, where each animal is cast and finished by hand: the rabbit for luck, the squirrel for foresight, the hedgehog for quiet resilience. Three small, heavy, keepable things.

Care Instructions

Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Pewter holds its finish well; avoid abrasives and prolonged moisture.
