The Charmer — Brass Bichon Frise

Regular price $35.00
Shipping calculated at checkout.

A bichon frise, small enough to stand in the crook of two fingers, cast in solid brass with every curl of the coat picked out — the pom of the tail, the soft fall of the ears, the round bearded muzzle. The antique patina darkens into the fleece so the curls read as texture rather than pattern, and the four short legs plant it squarely on any surface. It is barely two inches tall and heavier than it looks.

The bichon has no working history at all: no herding, no hunting, no guarding. It was bred for one thing only — to be good company. Sailors carried them, then Spanish courts, then Renaissance painters put them at the feet of their sitters. A small, uncomplicated gift for the person whose dog is the best part of their day, for a bichon or doodle owner, or for anyone who could use a little cheerful thing on their desk.

STORY

The bichon frise was bred for no job at all — no herding, no hunting, no guarding. Its only purpose was to be good company, first aboard Mediterranean ships, then in Spanish and French courts, then at the feet of Renaissance portrait sitters. This little one is cast in solid brass with every curl of the fleece rendered in fine detail, then finished with an antique patina that settles into the coat. Small, heavy, and cheerful — much like the dog itself.

Care Instructions

Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Brass will develop a natural patina over time. To restore shine, use a brass polish.
