The Spotted Sprinter — Lampworked Glass Dog

Regular price $45.00
Shipping calculated at checkout.

A glass dog mid-stride — front paws reaching, haunches coiled back, ears flopping, tail curled up behind. The body is clear glass with deep purple-black spots suspended inside like little ink blots frozen in place. Pick it up and it's heavier than it looks — that's because it's made from solid glass rods, not hollow tubing, which gives it a cold, dense weight in your hand like a smooth stone.

Lampworked by hand in L'viv, Ukraine, by artisans at Glass by Iness — a family studio that's been making glass figurines for over 25 years. Each figure is shaped under a 900°+ flame using hand tools to stretch, fuse, and pinch colored glass rods into form. The artisans complete technical school, apprentice for years under master glassblowers, and only then are trusted to produce finished work. Every face, every spot, every curve of every leg is placed individually — which is why no two dogs come out looking exactly the same.

STORY

Made by artisans at Glass by Iness, a family studio in L'viv, Ukraine, that has been making glass figurines for over 25 years. The family left Ukraine in the late 1980s — some to America, some to Germany — and one uncle purchased a well-known European vase manufacturer and began producing smaller glass pieces. What started with candle holders and Christmas ornaments grew into one of the largest lampworked glass studios in Europe. Each piece is shaped under a 900°+ flame using hand tools to stretch, fuse, and pinch solid colored glass rods into form. Every artisan completes technical school, apprentices for several years with master glassblowers, and is only then trusted to make finished work. Everything — including the glass itself — is made by hand in L'viv.

Care Instructions
