Bolgawoven Sculpture Basket — Ghana
Handwoven in Ghana by Nanasei Agyemang — a Ghanaian artist leading a new generation of Bolgatanga weavers. Each Bolgawoven piece is sculpted from hand-harvested, naturally dyed elephant grass, softened with water and shaped by hand into bold, oversized forms that blur the line between basket and sculpture.
Bolga baskets have been woven in Ghana's Upper East Region for generations — traditionally as sifters, storage vessels, and everyday containers. Nanasei's work takes that craft somewhere new: organic shapes that curl and fold like pliable ceramics, intricate botanical color palettes, scale that turns the basket into a piece of decor on its own. Works as a functional vessel or a standalone floor sculpture. No two are exactly alike.
