Tea Leaf Cane Basket — Handwoven, Assam India
A handwoven cane and bamboo basket from Assam, India — the same form used for generations by tea harvesters in the region's green-terraced plantations. Carried on the back during plucking, the shape is wide at the mouth and tapered at the base, made to hold the day's leaves and rest upright on the ground between rows. In a home, the same form works beautifully as a plant stand, a floor basket for throws or magazines, a laundry catch, or a sculptural object in its own right.
Each basket is woven by hand from natural cane and bamboo — no nails, no adhesives, no synthetic reinforcements. The pattern, the tension, and the finish are all set by the weaver's hand, which means each basket carries small variations in weave density and tone that are part of its character.
